Microsoft Launches Windows 8

Finally, the much-awaited day, Sept 13 has come when Microsoft is all set to unveil Windows 8 to the world. The next-generation Windows 8 is to be debuted at its Build developer's conference, starting today, Sept 13.

Windows 8 will have two personalities: One will be similar to the desktop version of Windows 7. The other will be a tablet skin that looks a lot like the Windows Phone interface.

According to Microsoft, Windows 8 will give computer users the option of navigation through the kind of touch-based interface they've got used to on tablets and smartphones. Continuing with the tablet-mimicking paradigm, Windows 8 also lets users run apps in full-screen mode.As a result of all the changes, Microsoft says Windows 8 will be equally at home either on traditional PCs and laptops or on tablets.

Ideally, all computers that run Windows 7 should be able to run Windows 8 as well.

Google's next Android OS, Jelly Bean

Google's Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt announcing the arrival of the upcoming version of Android OS termed Ice Cream Sandwich in October or November, speculations have started on the next version of Android.

Jelly Bean is the working name for next incarnation of Android. The name follows Google's tradition of calling its Android operating systems after sweets in alphabetical order. Earlier versions of Android follow a typical order -- Cupcake 1.5, Donut 1.6, Eclair 2.1, Froyo 2.2, Gingerbread 2.3, Honeycomb 3.0 and the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich.

Jelly Bean could be dubbed Android 4.5 or Android 5.0, depending on the amount of features packed.

Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to be a universal operating system that will work on phones, tablets, TVs, and even phones that transform into laptops. Among other things, the OS is likely to bring an updated app launcher, holographic user interface, interactive and new homescreen widgets and a multi-tasking panel.

According to twitter blog besides Hindi, Filipino, Malay and Simplified and Traditional Chinese in the coming weeks, Twitter will support 17 different languages.

Both Facebook and Twitter has huge followers in India. Meanwhile facebook has also launched their Hindi services along with five other Indian languages; Tamil, Malayalam, Punjabi, Telugu and Bengali.

Twitter allows users to send and read text-based posts up to 140 characters which is popularly known as tweets.Twitter also said that 35 percent global heads, including Australia's Julia Gillard and Argentina's Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner and 40 percent religious leaders, including popular religious leaders like Dalai Lama and the Pope among the users.

Almost half of personal computer users around the world get their software illegally, with China's massive market the worst culprit, a report claimed. A Business Software Alliance (BSA) survey showed 47 per cent of PC users globally believe there is nothing wrong with using unauthorized copies of software programs.

The survey of 15,000 PC users in 32 countries showed Chinese users have the most relaxed attitude to piracy. As many as 86 per cent of computer users in the country get their software illegally most or all of the time, the survey showed.

The survey makes it clear that global software piracy is increasing day by day and china is on first position about this issue. The Washington-based BSA is an industry group that works for copyright protection and counts among its members some of the world's biggest technology companies, including Apple, Microsoft, Symantec and Adobe.

Pirated software installations cost the industry nearly $59 billion globally last year. It said in terms of value, China was the world's second-largest culprit behind the US, installing $7.78 billion of stolen programs last year.

Malware attack on mobile devices, especially on Android platform, has surged in recent times, the computer security software maker McAfee said. According to McAfee report, malware threat on Android device raised to 76 per cent since last quarter, making it the most vulnerable OS in the market. The report noted Android as the 'most attacked mobile operating system.'

"This year we have seen record breaking numbers of malware, especially on mobile devices, where the uptick is in direct correlation to popularity," Vincent Weafer, senior vice president of McAfee Labs, said in a statement.

These malwares may appear in "everything from calendar apps, to comedy apps to SMS messages to a fake Angry Birds updates".

Android over took Nokia's Symbian OS as the most popular target for mobile malware developers. The rise of malware attack on Android may help cyber criminals to steal personal data from Android users.

Skype buys GroupMe
